WHO IS ALLAH?

from different people defining differently based on their understandings. Based on their perception we fix our perception of Allah سبحانه و تعالى. Let us understand about Allah سبحانه و تعالى (the creator) by the best way. And the best way of understanding or knowing about Allah سبحانه و تعالى is by Allah سبحانه و تعالى Himself in the Qur’an, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and as understood by the male and female Companions of Muhammad ﷺ.

We hear about Allah

Allah, the Supreme Being of this universe – revealed the message of truth through the Qur’an to enable us to live meaningful lives and to help us succeed in the hereafter. Reflecting on that message with an open mind and heart has allowed many from mankind to recognize and believe in Allah as the sole deity of this universe. Once our minds clearly know Allah as our creator and sustainer, we can better understand Allah’s rights over us and can also help us to worship Him the way we ought to worship Him as our creator. [1]

The word “Allah” is the proper name of The One God. Literally it is made up of the letters “al” which is the definite article “the,” and “ilah” the word for god or God (according to context as above). Thus the word “Allah” is “al-ilah” and literally “The God,” as in the Arabic phonetic construction (ال + إله=اللَّهُ). Of course the meaning is the One and Only God and the One Lord and Creator and Sovereign of the creation.

What do we Muslims believe about Allah سبحانه و تعالى?

1. He is the one God, Who has no partner.

2. Nothing is like Him. He is the Creator, not created, nor a part of His creation.

3. He is All-Powerful, absolutely Just.

4. There is no other entity in the entire universe worthy of worship besides Him.

5. He is First, Last, and Everlasting; He was when nothing was, and will be when nothing else remains.

6. He is the All-Knowing, and All-Merciful, the Supreme, the Sovereign.

7. It is only He Who is capable of granting life to anything.

8. He sent His Messengers (peace be upon them all) to guide all of mankind.

9. He sent Muhammad as the last Prophet and Messenger for all mankind.

10. Allah knows what is in our hearts. [3] [4]
